Last week I spent a couple of days co-facilitating an accelerated scenario building workshop for a Home Office project: an intense but illuminating process and also an opportunity to interact with some very knowledgeable participants.

This year I’m trying to set aside a number of hours per month for third-sector volunteer work that touches upon strategy, futures & trends issues. As such, it was a pleasure to be invited recently to offer a seminar covering online technology trends to the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
Over a ‘working lunch’ we investigated a range of different trends in a free-flowing, interactive discussion that also sought to encourage everyone to being thinking about the implications of such trends as they change and evolve over the next five to ten years.
My thanks to everyone involved for both their hospitality and their willingness to engage in a challenging conversation!

It was a pleasure to be invited to the recent Innovation Manchester ‘Boardroom’ event to offer a brief talk on both ‘The shape of jobs to come‘ report from Fast Future as well as discuss some of the key contextual themes this issue raises in relation to MCR (Manchester City Region).
The workshop – both well attended & managed – was part of a series of events organised under the banner of the Manchester: Knowledge Capital initiative.
Innovation Manchester can also be followed on Twitter.

I’m currently designing some new online activities and so won’t be updating this blog too much in the near future:
Current: I’m currently working with Fast Future on futures research, technology trends & timeline analysis & extending the company’s online presence.
Recent: Last autumn I completed a technology trends update process for the 3S4 Foresight team at the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO). Additionally, I co-chaired a seminar which explored four of the potentially most significant trends and also presented on online technology futures to internal committees.
Occassional: I’m developing a weak signals series.
Research: I doing some preparatory work on a personal research project into digitial legacies & I’m also looking for opportunities to extend my knowledge of arctic futures. Would be happy to hear from anyone interested in the same or similar areas.
